The Logic Behind the Labeling: Structured Product Labeling and Structured Product Monographs

Structured Product Labeling (SPL) and Structured Product Monographs (SPM) play a critical role in how the FDA receives, processes, and evaluates product information. These acronyms carry a lot of weight in the world of regulatory compliance in the United States. Before a consumer can read a drug label to understand the medicine's uses, risks, and instructions, manufacturers must first create machine-readable labeling that can be shared efficiently with the FDA, healthcare providers, and the public. DCL's professional team offers comprehensive services that relate to regulatory filings with the FDA. In this recorded webinar, DCL's SPL expert Howard Shatz answers questions around SPL and SPM.

Opening the Books: Boston Public Library’s Effort to Share Government Records

Boston Public Library, Open AI, and the Harvard Law School Library's Institutional Data Initiative joined together to digitize a trove of historically significant government documents from the early 1800s that are currently accessible only in person. The materials include oral histories, congressional reports, and industry surveys that provide a rich primary source record of U.S. history. Enhanced metadata and full-text searchability will allow these documents to be accessible to anyone online. Open AI is helping to fund the project and in return get to train its LLM on high-quality materials that are out of copyright.

An Archive of Life Stories From the Minds That Made History

Web of Stories is a video archive from people sharing their life stories in their own words. The project began as an archive of scientists’ narratives and blossomed into a rich web of interconnected stories spanning writers, artists, filmmakers, and beyond. Whether you’re curious about a world-class scientist or a celebrated creator, Web of Stories brings their journeys to life. The link below takes you to Francis Crick, renowned molecular biologist and biophysicist, as he discusses getting research published in Nature.

DCL Bytes: What Constitutes Copyright Infringement When Using an LLM?

DCL Bytes is part of the DCL Learning Series and features short, informative clips on technology, structured content, and more. In this short, Mark Gross from DCL speaks with Daniel Gross, partner at the intellectual property firm Myers Wolin, LLC. The discussion reflects on the fine line between innovation and infringement. They pose and discuss essential questions: when does using a large language model cross into copyright violation? Does the outcome depend on the source material, the model's output, or the use case? This conversation highlights the emerging challenge of balancing generative AI's creative potential with responsible use of copyright content.

Delta Think’s Survey Results: What 13,000 Researchers Revealed About the Fallout from US Funding Cuts
Delta Think collaborated with 27 professional societies and associations to launch a Global Author/Researcher Survey to understand the ripple effect of US government research funding cuts. The goal was to explore how researchers are navigating a rapidly evolving landscape, especially as US federal funding and policy decisions cast long shadows over the global research community. More than 13,000 researchers across every major discipline and 135 countries shared their voices through the survey. While the detailed findings are deep and wide-ranging, one thing is clear: the ground is shifting.

Structured Authoring: What It Is and Why It’s Important

"Control Your Data Before it Controls You": A Tagline for the Times

It was 2007. The iPhone had just been released, Facebook was still mostly for college students, and the term “cloud computing” was just starting to gain traction.

At DCL, we decided to have a little fun with a serious purpose: an internal contest to come up with a new company tagline. Our team members scribbled ideas on notepads, dropped slips into a box, and debated the merits of each over coffee.

The winning entry came from Nir Dayan, Lead Software Engineer at DCL. The tagline was short, sharp, and unforgettable: Control your data before it controls you.
