Research Integrity by Design: Leveraging Structure and Technology
|
While ethical misconduct in scholarly publishing is not new, advancements in
technology have made it easier to commit fraud. Fortunately, these same
technological advancements can also enhance the detection and prevention of
such misconduct with greater accuracy. Although there is no single solution to completely eradicate research and publishing misconduct, there are several automated integrity checks available to identify and report suspected issues on a large scale. Watch this recorded webinar in which DCL's Mark Gross speaks with Madalina Pop and Adrian Stanley as they explore strategies and technologies developed to combat plagiarism, reference and citation manipulation, data and image manipulation, and more.

From Passion to Profession
|
Some careers are born not in the boardroom but in childhood bedrooms filled with the hum of early computers. For Christopher Hill, Technical Product Manager for Harmonizer at DCL, this journey began in the 1980s, a time when personal computers were just starting to transform the world. Chris recently shared a great story about his first computer—a VIC-20—and how it inspired a video game, a big paycheck, and a lifelong love of technology.

How Railroads Influenced Global Connectivity and Modern Life
|
The advent of railroads revolutionized not just transportation but the very way we measure time. The pre-time-zone world was chaotic with each town operating on its own clock, causing confusion for train schedules and travel. Railroads actually reshaped society far beyond the tracks, influencing global connectivity and modern life. Read how the need for precision and coordination led to the creation of standardized time zones—a system we still rely on today.

Get Found: Ensure Content Discoverability
|
Academic libraries base content purchases on usage statistics, so it's essential for publishers to be easily found on major discovery platforms and through prominent abstracting and indexing (A&I) services. In a crowded publishing landscape, smaller publishers can struggle to capture the attention of A&I databases. This challenge makes it difficult for them to ensure that content structure, packaging, and metadata are not only accepted across various platforms but also fully optimized for maximum discoverability. Discovery Bridge by DCL bridges the gap between publishers and the complex web of discovery vendors such as EBSCO, ProQuest, Web of Science, and many others.

Pulse check on AI: December, 2024
The Content Strategy Experts podcast performs a pulse check on the state of AI as of December 2024, as Scriptorium discusses unresolved complex content problems and shares key considerations for entering 2025 and beyond. "The truth that we’re finding our way towards appears to be that you can use AI as a tool and it is very, very good at patterns and synthesis and condensing content. And it is very, very bad at creating useful, accurate, net new content. That appears to be the bottom line as we exit 2024."
