How the American Association of Cancer Research Ensured its Entire Journal Collection Was Updated and Accessible

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is the first and largest cancer research organization dedicated to accelerating the conquest of cancer. AACR recognized that using Content Clarity to analyze its entire collection would ensure all articles were updated to the latest constructs in NISO JATS 1.3 that ensure content interoperability and accessibility. AACR understood the value in creating uniform well-polished "atoms" from legacy materials for use in rapid development of new product offerings. Items such as equations, tables, funding information, bibliographies, etc. are easily captured when structured in the updated JATS format and provides flexibility for new uses.

Making the Greatest Medical Library in America

Making the Greatest Medical Library in America is a new online exhibit that showcases items featured in the 1878 display to explore the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) long history of collecting, cataloging, and communicating quality medical information to researchers, publishers, librarians, educators, healthcare professionals, and the public for decades. John Shaw Billings was an Army surgeon and book collector who oversaw the U.S. Surgeon General's library, which became the NLM. On a quest to bring together and catalog the world's medical knowledge, John Billings acquired approximately 300 pamphlets from the private collection of the renowned French physiologist Claude Bernard in 1878.

The Scale of All Things, Compared to You

Some of you may recall the famous 1977 short film by Charles and Ray Eames called The Power of Ten. The film shows the size of the universe by starting at human scale and zooms out further then returns back to Earth and zooms in to the microscopic layer. In an updated version of this story, Kurzgesagt focuses on human scale by comparing everything against it at each step. By maintaining comparisons the story is immensely compelling and impactful. The focus is on the individual and keeps scale in perspective.

The Power of Classification: Enhancing Findability in the Digital Age
Automatic data classification is crucial to making content findable. Findability measures how easily users can locate data within a system, impacting productivity and user experience. Challenges include balancing granularity and simplicity in classification, ensuring consistency, and adapting to evolving landscapes. Artificial intelligence plays a pivotal role in automating classification and enhancing findability. As technology advances, the synergy between classification and findability is important. Access Innovations is a recognized expert in database production and taxonomy development. They change search to found.

The Columbia Guide to Digital Publishing

The Columbia Guide To Digital Publishing was released in March 2003 in both print and online editions. This publication was revolutionary at the time! The Guide had an impressive list of authors including Bill Kasdorf and DCL's Mark Gross.

Hard to believe today but at the time, there was no definitive guide to the subject --- one covering every angle of digital publishing from both the technical and non-technical perspectives.

"The online version of the Guide is designed to complement, not compete with, the printed version," says Bill Kasdorf. "It will be available by subscription to individuals or as an intranet-enabled version to organizations like publishers, libraries, tech companies, printing firms, and so on." The online edition will make full use of the capabilities offered by the electronic medium.

It's still available on Amazon with a number of great reviews!
