New Look for DCL's Content and Data Solutions
|
While "conversion" is our middle name, DCL offers many complex services and solutions related to transforming static content into intelligent digital structure. Yet we've heard people comment that they were not aware of all the things we do other than conversion, so we've recast our home page not just for a new look, but also to make it easier to see more of our expertise and services. We hope it is helpful to you. Data capture, website scraping, ongoing automated conversions from Word to XML, robotic entity extraction, and training set development are just some of the ways DCL helps businesses organize content and data for modern technologies and platforms.

Using AI to Generate Complex Mathematical Equations
|
Complex equations are difficult to render in text both online and in print. For years, publishers and others generally render equations as images to ensure the proper representation. While the resulting equation is accurate to the human eye, computers and systems are not capable of understanding the meaning behind the image. Further, equations set as images are not accessible to the visually impaired. Enter AI. DCL can successfully extract content from image-based equations and transform it into MathML. Learn more about this exciting and practical use of AI and machine learning.

The Data-Centric Manifesto
|
More than 8 years ago, Semantic Arts published the Data-Centric Manifesto. The data-centric manifesto addresses the root cause of Information Architecture challenges by emphasizing the central importance of content and data structure and advocating for principles like markup language and industry standards. The manifesto details how the proliferation of legacy systems and data silos hinder enterprise flexibility and cost-efficiency, emphasizing the critical importance of content structure. To date 1,587 thought leaders and technologists have signed the manifesto and continue to work toward this vision.

WEBINAR
The promise of AI as embodied in new generative AI models such as ChatGPT, Bard, and others quickly went from lofty promises to warnings of peril. While we at DCL have always been optimistic about the advantages of AI, we also remain cautious as we test how best to implement explainable and responsible AI.
Join this lunch and learn conversation between two of DCL’s talented technical minds as they discuss recent AI hallucinations they’ve observed, AI gone terribly wrong, and AI initiatives that seem truly promising. They will also detail how DCL tests and implements AI in its own automated systems. [REGISTER NOW]

You Don't Need To Be Big To Do Big Things As part of the Access Innovations webinar series “Meaning Matters: Practical Applications of Semantic Technology,” Bill Kasdorf caught up with Mandy May, Director of Content Management at AMPP, to talk about her journey combining information assets from two organizations and launching a new CMS platform. Access Innovations was pleased to partner with DCL, Ariza Content Solutions, and Xpublisher on this massive project. Mandy talked about doing big things with a very small team and how they successfully managed to convert, tag, and upload the large inventory of documents.

Building Inspiration
Dawn Stevens, President and Owner of Comtech Services, which oversees CIDM, writes "The inherent characteristics of Lego blocks not only make them a great tool in teaching taxonomies, but a common reference for explaining structured authoring and reusability. We’ve probably all heard comparisons to Lego in discussions about breaking content into component pieces with similar structures so that they can be repositioned and used for a variety of purposes. In fact, Lego says that just six 2×4 blocks can be combined in..."

DCL and the Early Adoption of the World Wide Web
In 1997 not every single business in operation had a website but DCL did! The Internet looked so different back in those early days before web tools and technology were ubiquitous. With the recent refresh of our home page, we thought it would be fun to revisit one of our earliest websites to see how things have changed. Interestingly, so much of DCL's messaging still rings true today—outstanding customer commitment, content structure to support new initiatives such as the burgeoning Internet, and the DCL newsletter!
