DCL Announces Pre-Conversion Planning Service in 1996
It may sound obvious to plan prior to a legacy conversion---it is a key component to ensure no surprises during or after the conversion process. Yet prior to May 1996, this formal process was not a typical step in a large-scale SGML conversion projects! DCL formalized its pre-conversion planning service and tasks done during this phase, included: - Review of the DTD where applicable
- Review a large volume of input materials to generate a catalog of difficult issues
- List data items needed in the target conversion that don't exist in the source materials
- Correlate the DTD with legacy data to identify variations
- Prepare an issues analysis chart
- Prepare a preliminary conversion strategy report with alternatives
This methodology and commitment to detail is why DCL continues to be the industry leader in XML conversion services.
