MC: happy birthday

ChatGPT: Thank you! It's been a year filled with conversations, questions, and learning. How can I assist you today?

MC: You are 1 year old today. Where do you see yourself in 15 years?

DCL Announces Pre-Conversion Planning Service in 1996

It may sound obvious to plan prior to a legacy conversion---it is a key component to ensure no surprises during or after the conversion process. Yet prior to May 1996, this formal process was not a typical step in a large-scale SGML conversion projects!

DCL formalized its pre-conversion planning service and tasks done during this phase, included:

  • Review of the DTD where applicable
  • Review a large volume of input materials to generate a catalog of difficult issues
  • List data items needed in the target conversion that don't exist in the source materials
  • Correlate the DTD with legacy data to identify variations
  • Prepare an issues analysis chart
  • Prepare a preliminary conversion strategy report with alternatives

This methodology and commitment to detail is why DCL continues to be the industry leader in XML conversion services.
